Found in Goa’s deep south along the Goa/Karnataka border, Cotiago Wildlife Sanctuary is Goa’s second largest sanctuary, home to a multi-storeyed forest boasting rare plants and exotic fauna. Its position means that it’s relatively unknown, so birding and nature walks that are conducted here are very private. Boasting treetop perches, a nature interpretation centre and hiking trails amongst the 30m trees, it’s a must-see for keen bird and wildlife enthusiasts.
Guests can expect to see species such as:
- Orange minivets
- Grey Fronted Green Pigeons
- Malabar Grey Hornbills
- Racket-Tailed Drongos
- Malabar Trogon (if you’re lucky)
Other residents of the sanctuary include the slender loris, flying squirrel, golden-back gliding snake and Malabar tree toad, so keep your eyes peeled.

Your guide will provide binoculars for you if you don’t have your own, plus the books you’ll need to identify birds during the trip.
