After arriving at Cochin International Airport, you'll be met by our representative outside the terminal.
You'll head to Cochin, also known as Kochi, which is Kerala's biggest city. Consisting of six areas, including Ernakulam (the mainland portion of the city), Willington Island, Mattancherry, Fort Cochin, Vypeen Island and Bolghatty Island, you'll explore shopping markets, bazaars, the Dutch Palace, Bolghatty Palace and the ancient Portuguese architecture.
Stay overnight in one of the beautiful heritage hotels in the old quarter of Fort Cochin.
The morning will be at your leisure.
After lunch, you'll proceed to your guided sightseeing tour of Cochin. Visit the giant Chinese fishing nets which are originally thought to have been introduced in the 14th century. You'll then head to St Francis Church, originally named after Santo Antonio, and dedicated to him as the Patron Saint of Portugal. This church is thought to be the first in the new European-influenced architecture.
Moving on, you'll visit Mattancherry and the Dutch Palace, which was built in 1555. Afterwards, head to the Jewish Synagogue, where you'll learn about its varied history and witness its fascinating interior.
In the evening you'll get to experience a Kathakali dance show - Kerala's famous dance drama.
Today you will drive to Periyar Forest in Thekkady. Well-known for its wildlife sanctuary and natural beauty, you'll get the chance to discover the impressive wildlife that resides in the sanctuary, including herds of elephants, sambars, tigers and gaurs. During the afternoon, you'll embark on a tour of the impressive and aromatic spice plantations, before heading back to the hotel.
Rise bright and early for a three hour jungle walk through the sanctuary. Enjoy a boat ride out on Lake Periyar later in the day, and have the rest of the day to explore Kumily Town.
Today's adventure will take you to Kerala's intricate network of backwaters. After breakfast, you'll drive towards Alleppey and board a traditional 'kettuvallam' (rice barge) houseboat. Cruise the vast network of lagoons and lakes, where you'll get to see locals going about their business, and witness some amazing wildlife. Your crew of three will prepare your meals, and help you to appreciate the unique environment and society of the backwaters. You'll enjoy an overnight stay on the houseboat.
Transfer back to Cochin Airport to board your onward flight - your tour of Kerala is complete!
