The tour is perfect to gain an in-depth insight into the beauty of Kerala, and begins with a city walk of the ancient port of Cochin, where you can see fishermen bring in the catch of the day using giant Chinese fishing nets. The next couple of days are spent inland visiting Munnar’s impressive tea plantations, before moving onto Periyar’s aromatic spice plantations where the scent of cardamom, turmeric, cinnamon and pepper linger in the air. The following day, a morning jungle walk or boat trip at Periyar’s Wildlife Sanctuary will provide you with the opportunity to spot some incredible native-Indian animals such as Asian elephants, bison and sambar deer. Then, heading to the famous Keralan waterways (some 900km of winding canals and lakes), you’ll board a traditional houseboat for the night. Your penultimate day will be spent nearby in Kumarakom, where you can continue to enjoy the beauty of the backwaters from the shore this time, before heading to the costs for your final day in Marari with its stunning untamed beach.
