Goa is becoming an increasingly popular destination for singles holidays. Here we tell you why it's a good place to consider, and offer our personal recommendations on where to stay.

A holiday to Goa is an exciting prospect for many solo travellers wishing to explore the Indian subcontinent. Providing a soft introduction to India, its strong Portuguese influence means you get a familiar feeling of Europe alongside the traditions and culture of the rest of India. Solo traveller holidays are a fantastic way to do everything exactly as you want to, but it's also important to make sure that you stay safe. Thinking about little things like making sure not to wander along the beach after dark or avoiding the busy resorts late at night will mean that you have a completely enjoyable and memorable holiday - all whilst staying safe.

There are some fabulous resorts in Goa which are ideal for single travellers looking to experience some of the best of what India's sunshine state has to offer, so here's some more information about those resorts, alongside the hotels which we recommend for a memorable singles holiday in India...

Candolim

Located in North Goa between Calangute and Sinquerim, this coastal resort is one of the most popular with British holidaymakers. Offering a long, golden sand beach backed by plenty of beach shacks, it's ideal to soak up some rays, plus it's a little quieter than its neighbours. There's a main village with a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars, and you're not too far from Panjim, Goa's capital, for if you want to head off on an excursion and explore the city's impressive history; an ideal spot for a solo holiday.

Santana Beach Resort | 2.5 grade

A superb beachfront hotel with tropical gardens and typical Portuguese-style accommodation, you can enjoy the two pools and two restaurants, or head out to Candolim which is just a short stroll away.

Sonesta Inns | 3.5 grade

A lovely quiet oasis, with grounds filled with swaying palms and sunloungers surrounding a good sized pool, Sonesta Inns is a wonderful place to enjoy a very relaxing singles holiday to Goa, whilst being in a fantastic central location.

Country Inn & Suites Candolim | 4 grade

A charming hotel again located in the heart of Candolim, you can relax on the manicured lawns, take a dip in the pool, enjoy al fresco dining in the courtyard or head out and explore the village and beach.

Sinquerim

Home to some truly stunning hotels and a long sweep of golden sand, backed by a smattering of beach shacks, Sinquerim is in North Goa, and was in fact the first resort to be developed for tourism. Head to the most southern point of the beach to explore Fort Aguada, a 16th-century fortress providing some stunning coastal vistas.

Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa | 5 grade

Just one of the fine hotels along this coastline is the Taj Fort Aguada. Boasting superb panoramas over the coast, you can relax by the pool, make use of the yoga, tennis and other sports available, or perhaps even hit the spa? You're also able to use the facilities at sister hotel, Taj Holiday Village, which is conveniently found pretty much just next door. It's a fantastic choice for a luxury singles holiday.

Cavelossim

A small and sleepy coastal village, Cavelossim offers a fantastic holiday idea for singles looking to relax and experience the more laid-back side of Goa. There's still a handful of restaurants and market stalls to explore, along with some pretty architecture, but it's a lot quieter than its northern neighbours.

Sao Domingo's | 2 grade

A wonderful choice for anyone looking for a budget holiday option, Sao Domingo's is a short walk from the beach, where you'll find its very own beach shack - Edwin's Leisure Place. You can make good use of the free sunloungers and tasty Goan food here, or alternatively do some beach hopping in the area. There's also a lovely secluded pool for any serious sunbathers; perfect for a truly relaxing holiday for one.
