Looking to experience an authentic Ayurvedic treatment in Goa? Here’s our top 5 to treat yourself to on a rejuvenating spa holiday in Goa...

Indulging in a spa treatment or two is a popular pastime for many when going on holiday; you are there to enjoy yourself after all! If you’re currently in Goa or looking to travel there in the future, why not look a little further past the usual treatments you might expect, and introduce yourself to Ayurveda?

A healing system which was developed in India in excess of 3,000 years ago, an Ayurvedic treatment aims to restore balance and good health, and could range from a massage or a facial, to treatments for specific parts of the body and even certain diets and detoxes.

The great thing about this type of treatment is that it’s 100% personal to you. Consultations are usually held to determine the kind of treatment that you need or would like, or you can simply choose from a range of different treatments. Either way, an Ayurvedic treatment in Goa can offer a tremendously relaxing experience, and add that little extra something to your holiday in Goa.

To help you understand more about Ayurveda and the treatments available, here’s are the 5 of the best Ayurvedic spa treatments in Goa and where you can find them.

1. Sarvanga Vashpa Swedan Yantra at the ITC Grand Goa

Also known as the ‘Steam Bath’, this treatment uses steam and Ayurvedic oils in order to help the body detoxify through sweating.

A 20-minute session is offered by the ITC Grand Goa, where you can experience benefits such as stress relief, joint pain relief, improvement of circulation and cleansing of the skin. There are other advantages to a steam bath, of which your consultant at ITC Grand Goa can discuss with you. Discover the ITC Grand Goa

2. Ayurvedic rejuvenating massage at the Alila Diwa

Focusing on pressure points across the whole body, herbal oils are used during this Ayurvedic treatment as they penetrate all seven layers of skin which increases the effect this massage has on the body.

This Ayurvedic treatment in Goa is recommended for stress relief, as well as for osteoporosis, arthritis, and general aches and pains. Discover the Alila Diwa

3. Mukhalepā at the Taj Exotica

Rather than for aches and pains or stress relief, Mukhalepā is instead a traditional Ayurvedic beauty treatment. A facial which is undertaken using herb-infused oils, this Ayurvedic treatment aims to cleanse and tone delicate skin.

The Taj Exotica recommends pairing this treatment with a relaxing foot massage, which certainly sounds tempting! Discover the Taj Exotica

4. Chavittithirummu – Padabhyanga at The Leela

This body treatment originates from Kerala, a state to the south of Goa, and incorporates a number of different areas.

It's partly a soothing foot massage which is designed to benefit the nervous system and promote sleep by releasing negative energy, along with a focus on the back to help tone and strengthen the muscles. A full body massage is also then performed using the herb-infused oils, which should leave you feeling completely relaxed.

The Leela recommends this Ayurvedic treatment in Goa specifically for men without spinal complaints. Discover The Leela

5. Shirodhara at the Azaya Beach Resort

An Ayurvedic treatment which involves only your head, Shirodhara is designed to stimulate your nervous system whilst relaxing you mind. It can improve sleep quality as well as relieve headaches, and is an ideal treatment for sufferers of stress related disorders.

The Ayurvedic treatment in Goa involves pouring a continuous stream of warm, herb-infused oils directly onto the forehead after a massage. Discover Azaya Beach Resort

Day 1: Departing Goa for Delhi our representative will meet you in the arrivals area of the airport. They will assist with your private transfer to your Delhi hotel which will be your base for two nights.

Day 2: This morning, you will depart Delhi railway staion to Agra. Once a small village on the banks of the Yamuna, it was transformed by two great Mughal monarchs, Akbar and his grandson Shah Jehan into the second capital of the Mughal Empire, Dar-ul-Khilafat, or ‘seat of the Emperor’ in the 16th and 17th century.

Taj Mahal

When you arrive in Agra you will be met by our representative who will introduce you to your guide who will take you to Taj Mahal (closed on Fridays). On the inner walls, jewel-like stones create beautiful designs in white marble. The Mughals perfected the art of embedding semi-precious stones into marble and the Taj is the finest example of this special process called pietra dura. It begins with a marble plate, varying in size. Then jewels are sliced paper thin and embedded in the marble with such precision that the joints are invisible to the naked eye. Continue for a visit to the Agra Fort, a walled city constructed of red stone which was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983. Construction of the fort was originally started by Emperor Akbar in 1565, but his son, Jahangir, and grandson, Shah Jahan, later made valuable additions to it.

You will also visit Itmad ud Daula, also known as Baby Taj. This tomb was built in 1622 for Ghiyas Beg, father of Empress Noor-Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir. It is beautifully conceived in white marble, mosaic and lattice and set a precedent as the first Mughal building to be faced with white marble inlaid with contrasting stones.

Later, you will be driven back to Agra Cantt railway station, where you will board your train back to Delhi.

Day 3: After breakfast, proceed for the orientation city tour of Old and New Delhi including a visit of the 17th-century Jama Masjid and enjoy a rickshaw ride through the narrow, winding lanes of colourful and bustling Chandni Chowk. Stop in front of the Mughal Empire’s most opulent fort, the Red Fort for a photo opportunity.

Later proceed to New Delhi where you will be taken for a drive past the Presidential Palace, the one-time imperial residence of the British viceroys, the India Gate, a memorial raised in honour of fallen Indian soldiers and a drive along the Rajpath past the Parliament House and secretarial buildings. You will also visit Qutab Minar, the 12th-century tower of victory built by a slave king and prototype of all minars (towers) in India.

After the tour you will be transferred to Delhi Airport to board your short flight back to Goa.
